Sure, LTE is still several years away, but if this latest test is any indication of HSPA-based mobile broadband solutions set to hit the wireless market in the near term, the long road to LTE won't be too unbearable. Nokia Siemens networks has demonstrated their new I-HSPA (Internet High Speed Packet Access) in Austria and showed off the technology's 10.1Mbps data transfer rate.
The outstanding data speeds were achieved by using a "flat-network architecture" where the HSPA network base stations are directly connected to the internet. By connecting the base station directly to the web, users experience less latency. And, the flat network architecture allows for a smooth transition to LTE when it goes live.
