LG may be about to deliver the thinnest device at 5 megapixels, but at 8.9mm, BenQ's new T60 is holding down the 3.2 megapixel camp with some serious hotness. The slick candybar features a 2.2 inch QVGA display, "high quality media player" (whatever that means), integrated radio, 24MB of onboard memory, and microSD expansion -- you know, for actually making the camera and music player useful. BenQ's touting the whole package as being "affordable," too, which makes sense considering that the data flow appears to top off at measly GPRS speeds. Look for it to launch in Taiwan, Turkey, and Bangladesh this month -- quite a hodgepodge of countries if you ask us -- this month.

Remember this little gem? We're pretty sure the SL98 "reverse slider" went the same way as BenQ Siemens itself -- south, that is -- but there's been at least one more chance here to get in on one of the world's most bizarre form factors...

Benq is preparing a new clamshell mobile phone for launch, a model dubbed 'SF71' that comes with 3G capabilities and a rather stylish design. Compared to the slim handsets that Samsung and others have been releasing lately, the Benq Siemens SF 71 is rather thick, at 19mm. But it seems to be a nice and compact clamshell, resembling what Siemens used to release when it was still producing phones. The sliding design of the external LCD screen is quite interesting, with the camera module hidden underneath it. If the user slides the screen down, the camera module will be revealed. The phone also features dedicated music controls, positioned right below the secondary screen. Read the rest of this entry »

The BenQ Siemens E71 appears to be yet another desperate attempt to breath some life into the company, with no consistency with the range of handsets. Every handset is totally different, which makes it difficult for consumers to relate to the brand - unlike for example Nokia, who have a core brand, complimented by non-traditional handsets. It has to be said that the handset itself does look the part, polished black surface, fashionable rounded design with dimensions of 104 mm x 46 mm x 15 mm and weighing in at a very light 80 grams. The phone is very easy to carry whether slipped into a pocket, or a bag - you will hardly know that it is there. One drawback is the polished “glass” like surface which holds dirty and fingerprints a little too easy - a small point but unfortunate. The phone itself is supported by a 730 mAh battery offering some 390 hours of standby time and 6 hours talk time (towards the top of the current range in the market). This is complimented by some 17.5Mb of memory available to store your information on the handset. As with most “Candy-Bar” designs, the BenQ Siemens E71 is dominated by the TFT display screen which measures some 31 mm x 42 mm, offering pixel resolution of 240 x 320 and supporting a variation of some 262,000 colour combinations. While the handset itself offers a shiny black finish, it is a little surprising to see that the display screen holds up very well in direct sunlight, which can be quite rare in today’s market. Offering 8 text lines and 3 service lines, the screen gives a little more detail than many of today’s existing phones ... Click on Heading to Continue

As the joint venture of BenQ Siemens continues to struggle to create a worldwide reputation, they have released the BenQ Siemens E61 in the hope that this will some how change the company’s fortunes over night, sadly this has not happened. Recent financial worries have forced BenQ to retrench into familiar markets, with the hope of consolidating their financial situation and developing business when possible. While the BenQ Siemens E61 has a stylish design, it has been in development for so long that a lot of the components are out of date with the modern day technology. There is however some attraction to the more basic mobile user who may just be buying their first phone, or taking on a basic second phone. The BenQ Siemens E61 is powered by a 840 mAh battery offering 215 hours standby time and over 3 hours of talk time. The phone appears to be marketed towards the younger generation as the “Candy-Bar” design comes in silver and cream, as well as black and orange - colours which have historically been well received by the younger mobile phone user. The dimensions of the phone are not too bad at 101 mm x 44 mm x 17 mm and weighing some 96 grams, allowing you to carry the phone or slip into a pocket with ease. There are a number of function keys on the outside of the case, one in particular is used to launch the music player, which is one of the main elements of the phone. One concern is the fact that all side buttons are the same style, making it difficult to activate “blind” ..... Click on Heading to Continue

BenQ-Siemens has announced its first ruggedized handset since the merger of the two manufacturers, pushing out the new M81. The BenQ-Siemens M81 is clad in synthetics and rubber to provide shock, dust, and water resistance, and to give users a solid grip on the device. The tri-band (GSM 900/1800/1900MHz) BenQ-Siemens M81 comes loaded with a 262k color TFT LCD at the odd resolution of 132x176 pixels. A 1.3 megapixel camera is protected from the elements by a revolving cover, and an LED light that also doubles as a flashlight allows for better night shots. Bluetooth connectivity is supported, and stereo Bluetooth headphones can be used with the integrated music player, with tunes stored on microSD memory cards. For the outdoorsy type, a weather forecast application is included on the BenQ-Siemens M81, with data downloaded over an EDGE wireless connection.

BenQ-Siemens officially released their new slim clamshell EF81 on the market. A lot has been said about it resembling Motorola V3x. Indeed, the new BenQ-Siemens does look like a RAZR and many people would definitely take it for a V3x by mistake when they see it in your hands. But EF81 has a lot more to show and as soon as you devote more time to it, you would definitely find original characteristics that would distinguish it from the V3x in many ways. The first things that catch eyes were test phone clean lines and elegant design. Of course, it's a masculine piece of design and it won't attract many women. It's solid and a bit on the heavy side. A weight of 110 g and a serious width of 51 mm do require a man's hand to be operated with an ease. The phone is 94 mm long though with an incredible thickness of only 15.9 mm which makes it one of the slimmest 3G devices on the market. Just to get an idea of how thin it is, let me just say that it is 2 mm thicker than Motorola V3 and a good 4 mm thinner than Motorola V3x. And except for the somewhat loose .....

The BenQ-Siemens A38 mobile phone is a candy bar Tri-band GSM phone which almost looks like a Samsung if not seen minutely. The BenQ-Siemens A38 mobile phone works with GSM 900/ 1800/ 1900 networks, weighs about 90grams and measures 103.5 x 45.5 x 18.7 mm. The BenQ-Siemens A38 mobile phone has a 65k color CSTN display with a resolution of 96 x 64 pixels. The screen is pretty small at 1.4inches, but you can’t expect a lot from an entry level phone like this. The BenQ-Siemens A38 mobile phone is one for the budget conscious and doesn’t have the luxuries that a $300 dollar phone would give you. It doesn’t have a camera, no GPRS or any other data connectivity options. The phone also lacks crucial features like Bluetooth or even an infrared port for that matter. The BenQ-Siemens A38 mobile phone has only 256k memory for the ringtones, wallpapers and screensavers ....

While 3G phones are starting to take off around the world, it seems as though super thin 3G is the theme around the 3GSM World Congress this year. BenQ-Siemens' thin UMTS handset offering is the S81, a candy bar model with a professional, subtle style to it - classic Siemens really. The S81 comes in at only 13mm (0.51") thin, and weights just 99g. It sports a 262k color TFT LCD, though unlike other BenQ-Siemens handsets on display with QVGA screens, this model only includes a 176x220 pixel unit. A 1.3 megapixel camera is paired with 30MB of on board memory with microSD expansion for storage, and Bluetooth 1.1, Java, and email support round out the rather plain feature set. Thin is the game with the BenQ-Siemens S81 though, and at this it excels. Look for the S81 around Europe during Q2 this year.
