BenQ's C36 plays music, and that's about it
Posted on May 06 2008 6:22 AM by Aziz

Six months is an eternity by mobile standards; BenQ apparently knows that, already showing its C30 the door in favor of the C36. The new model carries over most of the C30's design cues but upgrades the VGA cam to 1.3 megapixels and swaps out the 1.8-inch 160 x 128 display for a moderately more generous 2-inch 220 x 176 one. Music is the real name of the game here, though, with dedicated controls atop the device, stereo speakers, and microSD expansion -- all of which will come in handy, we think, as you're waiting eons for web pages to load on the archaic GPRS radio. Look for it to launch in Indonesia this month with other countries following on shortly.

The retro-ish James Bond mobile phone
Posted on May 15 2007 6:45 AM by AffableJewel
Filed Under: BenQ ,

We've seen some pretty sweet James Bond handsets in the past decade or so, with Sony Ericsson playing a central role in recent times. We'll hack up the latest Bondphone by saying that it looks absolutely retro compared to recent models. Get a glimpse of this unit in full after the break and you decide -- does it strike anyone as looking like the Motorola brick phone from the late 1980s? Although the keypad and display have been moved to the side and the "brick face" side....

We've got Bluetooth headsets that cancel noise, amplify voices, and make you look good not entirely cockamamie, but Sound ID's latest iteration actually gives you one less reason to ever take it off. The minuscule earpiece sports compatibility with handsfree Bluetooth profiles, around eight hours of talk time and 72 hours of standby, auditory and visual low battery warnings, dual omni-directional silicon microphones, and a trio of modes to fit your situation. It also touts a NoiseNavigation feature that magnifies and cancels appropriate sounds automatically, and just in case you get tired of only hearing face-to-face....

B&O's Serene II outed by the feds

Oh sure, it doesn't look like much now, but that illustration above is none other than the Serene II fashion(ish) phone courtesy of the FCC. Otherwise known as the Samsung developed SGH-F310, the latest Bang & Olufsen über design packs GSM with EDGE data, 3G WCDMA, and Bluetooth 2.0. It's just a guess, but from the looks of the backside pic above, we're expecting the Serene II to continue with the original Serene's clamshell design only sporting a curvy fade sure to make Trekkies swoon....

BenQ-Siemens' E72 part of Windows Mobile 6 fray
Posted on Feb 20 2007 11:12 AM by Steve

BenQ-Siemens somehow still found the time and money to come to Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 party with the new E72 candybar last week. With data topping out at measly EDGE speeds and an emphasis on VoIP via its WiFi connectivity, the E72 smacks of the also-announced iPAQ 510 Voice Messenger from HP -- and like the 510, it'll also be running the Standard version of the platform atop 64MB of RAM and 128MB of ROM. Where the E72 wins, though, is with its QVGA display (versus 220 x 176 on the 510) and a slightly snappier 260MHz TI OMAP core.

BenQ P50

There is commonly a hiatus between a product being announced and it becoming available to buy. However, rarely is the gap quite as long as it has been with BenQ's P50, a quad-band Windows Mobile smartphone. First seen at the 2004 CeBIT show, launch announcements followed from BenQ in January 2005 and then again in May. It finally went on sale in the UK a few weeks ago. Although BenQ Mobile (the company formed when BenQ bought Siemens' mobile business) has now announced the Windows Mobile 5-based BenQ-Siemens P51, this is not due to ship until July. The BenQ P50 is available from Expansys for £329.95 (inc. VAT; £280.81 ex. VAT).
