The painful limitations of Windows Mobile are obvious to all, but my word E-TEN does a good job of working around them.
The HTC pretender - recently acquired by Acer for a bargain £145.3m - is hitting the high notes today with a pair of crackers in the shape of the M750 and M810.
Looking to succeed where the M800 was such a near-miss, the duo both start well with funky makeovers and upgraded Qwerty keypads and continue with zippy 500MHz CPUs, WiFi, GPS, built in Java support and Bluetooth 2.0. The M810 meanwhile differentiates itself from its sibling with HSDPA connectivity (the M750 is limited to EDGE) while on the downside the pair have 2MP autofocus cameras (3.2MP should surely now be par for the course) and QVGA resolutions (VGA is where it's at these days) on their 2.8in touchscreens, but neither is terminal.

We’ve got the Eten Glofiish M800, the high-end model of the manufacturer. Just as the M700 and X500, the M800 is an X800 (Review) with side-sliding QWERTY. Specifications-wise, you can hardly want more: it is global quad-band GSM with tri-band UMTS/HSDPA, has a 2.8” VGA display, WiFi and GPS with SirfStar III chipset. It runs on Windows Mobile 6 Professional edition with the same personalization as in the X800, so obviously we would have to wait more before Eten’s ‘TouchFlo’-like UI appears.

At its booth at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, E-TEN will showcase two new products that mark a change in track for Pocket PC Phones - the Glofiish M810 and V900.
The Glofiish V900 is E-TEN’s first Pocket PC Phone to feature mobile TV. With major events such as UEFA Euro 2008 and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games scheduled this year, there are sure to be events that people just don’t want to miss, and thanks to the V900’s support for DVB-H, DVB-T, TDMB and DAB broadcasting standards, they won’t have to. V900 also offers the benefits of VGA display and all-in-one connectivity solution comprising of HSDPA, GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Along with the Glofiish V900 E-TEN will debut its newly developed touch-based user interface. The V900 is scheduled to launch in the second half of the year.

Eten officially announced two new glofiish-branded WM6 Professional phones, the V900 and the M810. We’ve been talking about the V900 in the past, but the M810 is revealed just today.
The Eten glofiish V900 is with untypical for Eten look: it is very stylish (resembles the Touch by HTC) and with glossy surface. However, it is also very powerful, with all the bells and whistles other high-end Eten models offer (VGA 2.8” display, global 3G, GPS, WiFi) and added Digital Broadcasting options, for digital TV and radio (DVB-H, DVB-T, T-DMB and DAB).

Not long ago the Taiwanese manufacturer Eten announced the successor of the X500. That is the X600, arriving as the phone with the smallest dimensions among all other models of the company, its rivals being the LG KS20 and the HTC Touch. As all Eten devices, the X600 is also runs on Windows Mobile 6, has a built-in GPS with SirfStar III chipset and WiFi...

The glofiish X500+ takes the original X500's thin formula and packs in a glorious VGA display. Now, the bad: 3G data is still nowhere to be found. We suppose we'll have to wait for the upcoming X800 to sup the sweet nectar of HSDPA from an E-TEN device, but in the meantime, it seems the X500+ is a worthy upgrade its predecessor thanks to a stylish new black casing, Windows Mobile 6 Professional, and, of course, the aforementioned 640 x 480 touchscreen. No word on pricing or availability just yet, but we can probably guess "a lot" and "not here."

E-TEN may be hustling an upgrade out the door in the coming weeks in the form of the X500+ (yeah, they added a extra character). The plus brings a few changes to the device most notable of which is the resolution bump from QVGA to VGA – higher res is always okay with us -- and Windows Mobile 6, and a conspicuous lack of 3G. While we get that E-TEN doesn't want to step on its higher end devices by adding WCDMA, we don't have to like it.

E-TEN Pocket PC Phone with 3.5G Connectivityffers access to new mobile services, while the new Windows Mobile® 6 platform and large VGA display deliver improved ways to work with documents, messages and multimedia while on the move. At CeBIT 2007, E-TEN has released details of the company's next Pocket PC Phone which is to be launched in the second quarter 2007. The upcoming Glofiish X800 will deliver three significant innovations that make it the first of a next-generation of Glofiish devices.
High-speed connectivity via HSDPA Offering always on connectivity and speeds that are comparable to fixed-line connections such as ADSL, HSDPA, an updated 3.5G mobile technology, improves mobile communications with faster downloads to make surfing the internet and checking email more enjoyable. Additionally, HSDPA makes it easier for Glofiish X800 users to access advanced mobile services including VoIP, streaming video, and video calling.

The E-Ten Glofiish X800 has everything except the kitchen sink... and a QWERTY keyboard. It runs on Windows Mobile 6, possesses a large VGA display, has HSDPA/WCDMA, WiFi, quad-band GSM, Bluetooth connectivity and rounds it all out with a pair of cameras: a 2 megapixel digital camera in the back, and a smaller one up front for video telephony. The current preview version possess a Skype client, something that might not exist in the actual version but one can hope.

A new PocketPC by Eten, a company with solid traditions in portable devices, is another interesting device, which was recently announced. The Eten glofiish M700 is the first device by the company to incorporate a sliding QWERTY keyboard. But more is better, right?

The Eten M500 mobile phone is Quad band GSM phone which was released last year and is now available for a price of about $450. The phone weighs about 170 grams, which is pretty heavy by any standards. It measures close to 111.7 x 60.7 x 22 mm. The Eten M500 mobile phone comes with a 65k color TFT touch screen with handwriting recognition software. The Eten M500 mobile phone also features a memory card slot for SD memory cards. The phone is powered by a decent 400 Mhz Samsung processor coupled with a old version of the Windows operating system for PocketPCs. It has the 2003 SE version, which is much slower and sluggish as compared to the new Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphone edition. The camera of the Eten M500 mobile phone is a good 1.3 mega pixel one which can take still photos at 1280 x 960 pixels, with video recording feature. You can also play the video after recording it on the Windows Media Player 10 which comes pre installed with the phone. The battery of the handset lasts for about 4 hours talk time and over 200 + hours of standby.

ETEN M600 is a mini Pocket PC phone for GSM/GPRS with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, full size SD card slot (SDIO compatible) and enough power to run Skype. The phone is pretty light compared to the other Eten PDAs. It weighs approximately 160 grams and measures close to 111.7 x 60.7 x 22 mm. The Eten M600 mobile phone comes with a 65k color TFT screen with a display resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. As far as size is concerned the ETEN M600 belong to the catory "mini Pocket PC phones" - it is only slightly bigger than HTC Magician (and roughly the same size as HTC Wizard.
The additional size is caused by thicker battery - 1400 mAh capacity - compared to 1200 mAh in HTC Magician. Fortuntely the SD card slot is not mini-SD but full size SD - also SDIO compatible. In other words one can use very cheap SD cards of big size instead of being forced to buy more expensive mini-SD cards .......
