We always envisioned Kyocera as a low-end handset maker and they seem to like just the way it is. That being said their latest CDMA line-up doesn't come as a surprise to anyone. Few lines are tweaked, but basically all their new phones are considered low-end. Let's roll:
Neo E1100: 2.2 inch QVGA display, Bluetooth 2.0, BREW, 1.3 MP camera and a hidden OLED out displayMako S4000: two screens (inner is 1.8-inch), VGA camera, BREW, BluetoothAdreno S2400: 1.8 inch screen, external caller ID display, BREW, no camera at all

Kyocera has purchased Sanyo's unprofitable mobile division for $375 million; this includes Sanyo's handset manufacturing operations and sales channels in Japan and other countries.
However, the manufacturer's brand won't be changed. This way Kyocera hopes to expand its penetration in foreign markets, especially U.S.

Still waiting around to hop on the Rev. A highway? Although last week would've been a swell time to do so, now's not too bad either, and Verizon Wireless customers have yet another option at their fingertips...

This slim handset features a "S" hinge design made of stainless steel. It includes high-speed 1xEV-DO for music and video on demand (MOD/VOD) and a 1.3 megapixel camera with video recorder. Audiophiles will love the dedicated, touch-sensitive external controls for the integrated music player and stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) capability. The E5000 includes a microSD memory expansion slot for storing up to 2GB of extra music, pictures or movies. A dual-band digital handset with a 2-inch QCIF+ internal TFT display, Kyocera E5000 will be available from global CDMA carriers in Fall 2007.

Kyocera has unveiled the M1000 messaging handset at CTIA, featuring a fold open layout and dual displays, but unfortunately the internal display measures a mere 1.8" which is far too inadequate for such a text intensive device. Both internal and external displays are 262k color TFT screens, where the external one sports a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels and the internal one stands at 160 x 120 pixels. Additional features include Bluetooth connectivity, a 1.3 megapixel camera that does both photo and video, and Java support.

This oddly-shaped handset comes in a full chrome body that is extremely appealing to the eyes - too bad there is quite a lot of cleaning up to be done with the E5000 since you will be spending most of your time wiping fingerprints off it and perhaps even polishing it to get rid of annoying, minor scratches. The hinge of this clamshell handset is also something not seen on other models in the market, adding to its uniqueness. Apparently Kyocera is manufacturing the E5000 for the latest U.S. carrier, Carrier Logo.

The new Cyclops, as the handset is to be known, features Virgin Mobile's TXT Tones and Virgin Audio Messaging, as well as other mid-range features and a sleek design. In partnership with Warner Music Group, Virgin Mobile's TXT Tones service functions similar to other ringtone purchasing systems, though instead of buying longer segments of songs, only three to five second clips are available, and are designed to be used for message alert tones. Each TXT Tone costs US$1.50 to download, and can be purchased either online at www.virginmobileusa.com or through the handset's VirginXL menu. Virgin Mobile Audio Messaging (VAM) is aimed at expanding existing messaging functionality by allowing the user to create a contact list to see who is available to be 'VAMed,' and subsequently record and send a voice message to the other party. If the other person is available, they can listen to the message and reply with their own, and if not the message will be stored and available to them when they are ......

Kyocera seems to be making a push into the music handset scene, and its new K352, announced a few weeks ago at an event in Brazil, may well prove to be a hit.
The Kyocera K352 is aimed at being a music handset on a budget. Some other features of the handset have been cut down, such as the inclusion of only a VGA resolution camera, to be able to provide a music phone with 256MB of on board memory at a reasonable price. Music control keys are provided on the front of the Kyocera K352, and overall the handset has a size and feel to it very similar to the Sony Ericsson T610.
