Back in February we posted about Samsung SGH-i200 mid-range smartphone. Now it's officially announced, but unlike we initially thought, it will come with the latest version of Windows Mobile - 6.1 (not 6.0). The thin device seems designed to turn an average feature phone user into a full fledged smartphone junkie. This little phone has everything a novice smartphone user could dream, including HSDPA support, 2.3-inch QVGA screen, 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and an array of MS Office mobile apps that should make everyone more productive while on-the-go. Additionally, the i200's unique "light sensor" makes sure users minimize the power consumption to adjust lightness of LCD and keypad automatically. No WiFi, though.
The Samsung i200 will be launched in the European market in June and will enter other markets within a month. No pricing details were given.

Bell Mobility in Canada is set to add two mid-range devices to its portfolio. The first one, Samsung Ace, is considered to be the BlackJack's younger brother, boasting full QWERTY keyboard, Windows Mobile 6 Standard edition, 1.3 megapixel camera, microSD slot, Bluetooth support. The lack of 3G and WiFi may be a dealbreaker for some people, hence they may ignore it on May 12th when it officially hits the Bell's portfolio.

How do we know that Sprint is pushing the Samsung Instinct to go toe-to-toe with AT&T's Apple iPhone? Well, aside from the obvious touchscreen and form-factor similarities, an email from Sprint suggests, "Move over iPhone, The Instinct by Samsung is coming."
Sprint's going all out in marketing their iPhone-fighting all-touchscreen device and has launched a new website dedicated to giving loyal Sprint customers a first look at the Samsung Instinct and its grocery-list of features. Confirming what we already knew, Sprint's website indicates that the Samsung Instinct will be launched in June.

So, it's not just the new Curve that reached Verizon ahead of schedule. Samsung Glyde joins the party with its glossy surface and the full QWERTY keyboard. Actually, our earlier story was right. The Glyde will hit the Verizon offering within the next 48 hours, but that doesn't stop you from annoying the carrier's sales representatives.
In the meantime, let me recap the specs. There's a 2 megapixel camera with digital zoom, GPS, stereo Bluetooth, large 240×440 pixels screen, microSD memory card slot. Supported services include V CAST Music and Video, as well as VZ Navigator. Finally for the pricing, the Glyde costs $249 after a $50 rebate and with a two-year contract.

Just in case you haven't learned enough about the forthcoming Samsung Instinct from our hands-on gallery / UI video walkthrough, Sammy has launched a promotional website designed to give you the skinny. Within the site, you can peer at a handful of press shots, get schooled on all of its features and sign up to be notified when it's ready for your hands to be wrapped around it. Nothing too exciting, but those with the Instinct high on their list of next mobile to own will surely find it worth the click over.

Remember when we caught wind that Verizon was prepping a worldband version Samsung's i760 Windows Mobile piece? That rumor's suddenly gained a lot more credence now that we've seen a so-called SCH-i770 pass through the FCC's hallowed halls, especially considering the device outline's uncanny resemblance to that of the aforementioned i760. We'd previously heard that there might be some HSDPA on board, and while we're not seeing any evidence of that from the FCC's test reports, we can confirm that it'll feature EV-DO, WiFi, and Bluetooth in addition to all the GSM you'll need to get by while roaming through mysterious foreign lands. No word on when we might actually see an announcement about this one, but we imagine Verizon doesn't want to wait that much longer -- the i760 design isn't getting any younger, y'know.

While we here in the U.S. walk around with Samsung's BlackJack and BlackJack II smartphones, Europe, ever stylish, has devices like the i620, the subject of this review. Clad in white, this is one good looking QWERTY phone.

We've learned from a trusted source that one of the jewels in Verizon's summer 2008 crown, the Samsung Glyde, will finally freaking launch on May 9. Despite a wealth of both in-the-wild and press quality photography of the phone over the past few weeks, it's been less and less clear when exactly Verizon was planning on actually offering it, so we're glad to finally have a date -- particularly considering that it's less than two weeks away. That'll give the Glyde a few comfortable weeks atop the heap ahead of the Dare's arrival, so enjoy it while you can, Samsung.

The long overdue Samsung Glyde U940 has finally shown up in Verizon's InfoManager system. Unfortunately, no release date or price is listed along with it. All that is shown are the official specs of the device, press photos, and on-line user guide. However, rumor has it that full retail price will be $499, with 2-year pricing around that of the Voyager, and a release in May or June.

Our friends at Samsung were kind enough to slip us a bright white SGH-i620 while we were visiting them at the 2008 CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas. This particular i620 was built for Vodafone Italy, and sports the company's "mail & call" logo on its side. The i620 is similar to Samsung's other i6xx series messaging devices, such as the i617 BlackJack II, and runs the same Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard edition operating system. It is a tri-band GSM/EDGE cellphone that can get HSDPA 3G data speeds on 2100MHz networks, such as those in Europe.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has developed a micro-fuel cell and hydrogen generator that runs on water, writes the Chosun Ilbo.
Oh Yong-soo, vice president of Samsung Electro-Mechanics' research centre, who said that when the handset is turned on, metal and water in the phone react to produce hydrogen gas.
The gas is then supplied to the fuel cell where it reacts with oxygen in the air to generate power.
