While it’s fun to speculate about an upcoming handset’s model name and possible feature-set, it’s even more fun when handset makers unveil their hardware earlier than expected. Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) just made our day with their official unveiling of the Sony Ericsson C901, once known by its codename “Filippa.” The Sony Ericsson Filippa had been expected to launch at Mobile World Congress as the Sony Ericsson C901, and it looks like all that prior speculation was spot on!

We never get tired of software updates that promise to speed up or add functionality to our smartphones. One of the hottest smartphones of the year has just gotten its first firmware update. The Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) XPERIA X1 has apparently been spotted on EMMA, which is Sony Ericsson’s service software intended for service centers to update devices.

With its slim profile, capable feature-set, and slick lens cover, you’d have a hard time believing that the Sony Ericsson C903 “Frances” is supposed to be the Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) C905’s down-range sibling. And, after today’s new look at the Sony Ericsson C903’s pretty little backside, Sony Ericsson has proven that lower-end handsets don’t necessarily have to have lower-end styling or performance.....

In a sudden retch of pigmentation, Sony just spat out the "Carnival Colors" collection of PSPs. Starting March 5th in Japan, the new colors matched with a 2200mAh battery will set you back a tax-inclusive price of ¥19,800 (about $223). Otherwise, you can drop ¥24,800 (about $279) for the 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark2), PSP pouch, wrist strap and cloth bundle.

We’ve been tracking the still-unannounced Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) Filippa Cybershot handset since last year. The upcoming Cybershot cameraphone is expected to one-up the Sony Ericsson C510 Cybershot with a 5 megapixel camera that bests the 3.2 megapixel jobby in the C510.

A company called JTrek has recently unveiled its security and safety software for smartphones, which uses video, photo, audio and GPS monitoring capabilities. Available as a subscription-based service, JTrek allows users to have a full-time personal surveillance protection device.

Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) is bringing the so called PlayNow Kiosks to its retail stores to Pacific Asia. Apparently, visitors to more than 80 company’s stores in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore can use these kiosks to download some free mobile content — including movies, games, music and ringtones — to their Sony Ericsson handsets.

The Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) TM506 has been serving up T-Mobile (NYSE: DT)’s own special flavor of 3G on the 1700Mhz AWS spectrum for some time now. Sony Ericsson had previously offered the Sony Ericsson TM506 in Black or Emerald Green, and is now updating the lineup with a new Scarlet Red color option.

One of the easiest and quickest ways to stir up more interest for your product lineup is to release popular handsets in new colors, just ask Motorola (NYSE: MOT) about their RAZR lineup. Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) apparently wants to rejuvenate their Sony Ericsson T700 lineup with a couple.....

TechDigest is reporting that Sony has given a ‘no’ to Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) using it’s ‘PlayStation’ brand in it’s mobile devices. If we are to believe what has been written then Sony wasn’t happy with the UX (user experience) that would be had on mobile devices right now.

UK has come in with a £9/month tariff for users, trying to get them on to contracts, and out of prepay (and probably attract some new users in to the bargain!). The deal gives the customer a Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) G502,.......

Once again, our bud PhatTrance has tipped us off (and has posted on his site) with first snaps of the Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) W595, which is soon to be available in ‘Sandy Gold’. The Sony Ericsson W595 is expected to hit the European market by February of 2009… and will be the next generation device to follow the W580.

I’m not sure how we missed this… Sony Ericsson has a new mobile phone tripod called IM502. As you can see from the image above, it looks quite useful and way better than their previous tripod that came in the Camera Phone Kit IPK-100, which was unveiled alongside the Snap-on Speakers MPS-75.

My buddy John over at MobileSyrup sent me a little note this morning with this little tidbit. Looks like Best Buy in Canada are stocking up on the Telus HTC Touch Pro. He noticed that they were updating their site with the new device, soon to be available online by the looks of things.
