The iPhone lacks many things that have come to be taken for granted by many mobile enthusiasts. A functional "Today Screen" that displays at-a-glance information is one of the features that Apple failed to include in their first handset offering. But, that doesn't mean the prolific iPhone developer community is going to sit idly by and accept Apple's oversight.

While many AT&T customers are enjoying the No. 1 US carrier's HSDPA (HSPA in some areas) 3G network, AT&T's 3G speeds are still relatively slow compared to their counterparts in Europe and Asia. Following AT&T's HSUPA upgrade to their 3G network this year (creating a true HSPA network), Big Blue has announced on Wednesday that it plans to roll out its HSPA release 7 network in 2009. The new 3G technology will apparently boost data speeds to 20Mbps - more than 5 times what current AT&T 3G users can expect today.

ASUS isn't showing any signs of slowing down its Windows Mobile product lineup anytime soon. The ASUS P560 may be a bit overshadowed by the company's Lamborghini-branded ASUS ZX1, but that doesn't mean the ASUS P560 isn't a true powerhouse by any means.
The quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM ASUS P560 is powered by Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 and packs in a dual-band 3.6Mbps HSDPA radio, aGPS, WiFi, 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, microSDHC slot, 256MB ROM / 128MB RAM.

There's nothing like a little government contract-love to fill company coffers with some tasty greenbacks. Verizon has apparently secured a $678.5 million contract to provide network infrastructure and services to help the US Department of Homeland Security respond more quickly and reliably to emergencies.

Following on the cooked Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM that got "leaked" out for the Sprint Mogul not too long ago, it looks like Sprint has let yet another beta version of the Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM get "leaked" out to the ROM-cooking community.
The Sprint Mogul (HTC Titan) Windows Mobile 6.1 (3.49, radio 3.39.10) adds the latest WM 6.1 beta build, Sprint TV, and a speed boost to the GPS and EVDO Rev. A that the previous ROM leak enabled.

Here's something for those that crave to go back in time, at least virtually. Thanks to the third-party native app called iDial, iPhone users can add an old-school rotary-type dialing to their beloved handsets. As you can see from the screenshots above, the application looks just the way you can imagine it, even displaying the number you just dialed at the center — so there's no confusion.

Rogers Wireless will be the first carrier to offer the newly announced BlackBerry Bold 9000 in Canada. We all expected this to happen, and because RIM is a Canadian company, maybe even before AT&T got the exclusive launch rights for the U.S. Still, U.S. is a bigger market for the BlackBerry-maker and announcing a U.S. partner prior to Canada's makes sense.

LiMo Foundation is steadily gaining momentum. Industry seems to be scared of Google's Open Handset Alliance and they're jumping to other big Linux group. That being said, LiMo has announced the addition of new member companies — Infineon Technologies, Kvaleberg AS, Mozilla Corporation, Red Bend Software, Sagem Mobiles, SFR, SK Telecom and Verizon Wireless, which joined the group as a Core member and will fill the final seat on LiMo's board of directors.

Xtand is a beautiful stand for your iPhone, which looks like something made by Apple. As a matter of fact, this stylish cradle has iMac-like solid aluminum construction that makes me think why it didn't come in box alongside the iPhone.
Unfortunately, it won't charge your beloved handset, but it will help you enjoy movies in a much better manner thanks to such features as 360 degrees rotation and an adjustable viewing angle.

Back in February, we wrote that Dior and Swarovski are working on a mobile phone. Apparently Dior is leaning toward the official launch, which is set for tomorrow, Friday May 16th. We don't have enough information about the upcoming fashion phone, except that it will also work as some sort of remote control. In addition, since it will come embedded with Swarovski crystals, we're kinda sure you won't be able to get it for free on a contract.

Is it the lack of innovation at Motorola or just an idea to maximize revenue from the existing devices? Or both? Don't know, but following the introduction of the ultra-cool RAZR2 V9 Ferrari Edition, the American handset maker has unveiled a new flavor of the device. With its "luxurious yet tranquil look and carefully-selected features", the MOTO RAZR2 Pink Silver is obviously targeted towards female consumers. Actually it's designed to "appeal to the confident young generation," according to Lim Joung Ah, Marketing Director of Motorola Korea.

HP will use Qualcomm's Gobi, while Fujitsu-Siemens will rely on Sierra Wireless's HSPA solution to provide HSPA connectivity in their future laptops. Now, Dell announced a deal with Ericsson to use the Swedish company's mobile broadband modules to "provide the end user with a simple and cost effective solution for broadband access while on-the-go." In addition to the HSPA radio, Ericsson's module also has a GPS receiver, but also uses such technology that takes less power from the battery.

Six Apart released a native mobile client for select BlackBerry phones, Pearl and Curve included. The mobile application will "enable" CrackBerry users to enhance addiction to their beloved handset, by allowing them to upload photos, manage comments, and draft, edit and post to their TypePad blogs. Yes, this means that you can take a photo and instantly upload it to your blog, without moving the file to your computer first.
