Apple and Cisco settle
Posted on Mar 10 2007 5:48 AM by Blogging Maria
Filed Under: Apple , News ,

Apple and Cisco have settled that "silly" lawsuit, with Apple agreeing to guarantee the exploration of "wide-ranging 'interoperability' between the companies' products in the areas of security, consumer and business communications" according to the WSJ. This does sound a lot like what Cisco wanted initially from Apple, and might possibly wind up in some kind of SIP / VoIP solution that allows iPhones and iPhones to communicate. Apparently both will make use of the trademark in the market (i.e. Apple's and Cisco's iPhones will both continue to be iPhones), and all's well that ends non-litigious.

Motorola Q coming

Filed Under: News , Motorola ,

Looks like some fool revealed Amp'd's next phone by leaving a user manual up on their downloads site. The irrational obsession with Motorola continues with the Amp'd Q, and while they obviously didn't say when it's coming or for how much, if you didn't already take the chance to buy this thing on Sprint or Verizon (and aren't interested in waiting for its predecessor, the Q q9) then you'll finally have a much hipper carrier option for taking one home.

Mobile with Remote

This is an image from a new patent SonyEricsson is applying for: a remote control and mobile phone in one device. Not very original or before it’s time, in my opinion, but still something very worthwhile for us gadget lovers with way too many devices.

Samsung u620, VCAST TV details on Verizon site
Posted on Mar 03 2007 7:27 AM by Blogging Maria
Filed Under: News , Samsung ,

As expected, Verizon has launched its MediaFLO-capable SCH-U620 slider from Samsung today, the first device to support its VCAST TV mobile television service (the arguably cooler LG VX9400 is still waiting in the wings). Besides the productivity-sapping teevee, the diminutive slider offers up Bluetooth, EV-DO (naturally), microSD expansion, 1.3 megapixel cam, and QVGA display.

LG's new KH1300 HSPDA handset

LG's new KH1300 has officially landed at South Korean carrier KTF. Sportin' HSDPA with 3.6 mbps download speed capability, this LG slider comes stocked with the obligatory MP3 player with video capability, 1.3 megapixel cam and the other standard features in this class of handset like QVGA screen and a Samsung-ish flat keypad ala the older Sprint A900M. This looks like a fairly standard handset -- except for that sweet HSDPA download speed.

Asus P526 PDA Phone

Filed Under: Asus , News ,

The Asus P526 PDA phone to be released at the CeBit next month in Germany will feature GSM, GPRS and EDGE for connectivity, a 2.6″ 65k color touchscreen and a 2 Megapixel camera for those all important snapshots. It also features built in GPS for satnav. It will be powered by the new Windows Mobile 6.0 operating system. I hope that ASUS will make an European version that will feature UMTS instead of the US-focused EDGE technology.

Adobe Flash Lite 3 adopts video support

Have Adobe Flash Lite installed on your mobile? Adobe's Flash Lite 3 is due out sometime before July and will natively have video support built in. The format, you ask? Well, naturally, Adobe's native video support in Flash Lite 3 will be its own Flash video format (FLV) that is used for videos all over the web these days (yeah, that goes for ads, too). Flash Lite 3 will be available on S60, BREW, and Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 (most likely WM6 as well).

Elle Glamphone Nº3 slider coming in 2007
Posted on Feb 22 2007 10:19 AM by Blogging Maria
Filed Under: News ,

This newer Glamphone Nº3 slider above -- we guess -- is meant to denote a hot degree of perkiness maybe -- but we'll pass on that. This rather normal but "glammy" handset will be offered by Alcatel soon, with its curvy slider looks having been to the paint factory for all those off-primary colors --orange, pink, purple, white and yellow-green. Onboard is a 1.3 megapixel shooter (now the norm) and of course an unspecified color screen and MP3 player functionality.

Sony Ericsson prepping "music kiosks" for phones?
Posted on Feb 21 2007 10:13 AM by Blogging Maria
Filed Under: Sony Ericsson ,

Between its wealth of Walkman-branded phones and its freshly minted M-BUZZ music service, it's no secret that Sony Ericsson's here to stay in the mobile music space. Rumor has it that the joint venture's latest foray involves something mysteriously referred to as a "music kiosk" -- presumably a public, standalone box of some sort that blasts appropriately-equipped phones with tunes for a fee. Of course, the concept is anything but new, so we're not entirely sure what's going to set Sony Ericsson's effort apart; we still prefer the idea of getting our music served hot 'n fresh over the high-speed airwaves, but we suppose we could be swayed if it's cheap enough and compatibility falls beyond the Sony Ericsson domain.

Sony Ericsson K550
Posted on Feb 19 2007 10:06 AM by Blogging Maria
Filed Under: Sony Ericsson ,

This relatively small, 14 mm thick quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE device (850, 900, 1800, 1900), packs most of the goodies that we have come to expect from the Sony Ericsson team. Included is a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth for handsfree goodness, M2 slot to augment the system memory -- a 512 MB card is included, and even an RDS-enabled FM radio. The Cyber-shot revolution has done only good to the Sony Ericsson sales. It proved rather successful and that is the reason why the manufacturer naturally releases a more affordable cameraphone to the masses. Sony Ericsson continue their long line of bar phones which are either camera or music-oriented with the K550. The midrange K-series continuation comes again in a small shell with a tight fit waist. At only 14 mm thickness, it surely packs in some nice features. So let’s continue with our review, but bear in mind that in the case of Sony Ericsson the Cyber-shot logo does not necessarily mean great camera performance but enhanced imaging capabilities.

Patent pending: Upside down telephone design
Posted on Feb 16 2007 9:43 AM by Blogging Maria
Filed Under: News ,

Mad 4 Mobile phones is carrying a report about a very interesting idea by Anthony Harrison: This is exactly what it looks like: a “upside down phone”. Anthony Harrison, who filed a patent application for his idea, claims that the conventional method of holding a mobile phone is unergonomic, as it means that the majority of the phone is not resting in the palm. In his design the phone would rest in ones hand palm and the thumb would be in a much more natural position.

I personally would have to try this one out to be able to judge if it is true or not, but I guess a phone where you could flip the display and number positions would be the best solution.

Meizu M8/miniOne closer to production, litigation
Posted on Feb 15 2007 11:00 AM by Blogging Maria
Filed Under: News ,

Last we saw Meizu's curiously familiar M8 handheld device, it was looking like it still had a long ways to go before we'd actually see one out in the wild. As these latest tantalizing shot show, however, the device seems to be rapidly winding its way into reality whether Apple likes it or not, also picking up a new name in the process: the miniOne. Although if that one sticks, Meizu could well be facing problems of originality on multiple fronts, as the admittedly-catchy name is already in use by another company and presumably trademarked.

Neonode N2 Revealed

Neonode revealed the Neonode N2 smartphone at the 3GSM 2007. The new Neonode N2 is a small and stylish touch screen mobile phone featuring a 2 inch screen, 2MP camera, music player, video player, Bluetooth and miniSD card slot.
Neonode sticks to the open platform concept and runs a new user interface system on the N2, which they call Neno. The N2 features also the unique Neonode touch screen, which is actually not a touch screen. There is a grid of light beams forming an invisible grid over the screen and the location of your finger is detected when the beams are crossed. This means you do not have to touch the surface of the screen to navigate.
