LG VX9400
Posted on Mar 10 2007 5:42 AM by Jones T. Miller
Filed Under: LG , News ,

LG VX9400, which was originally thought to be scheduled to launch alongside the u620, will end up dropping on the 23rd of this month in VCAST TV markets. Not too painful of a delay, eh? Pricing should come in at $350 full retail, $250 on a one-year contract after rebate, or $200 if you like that mobile TV action enough to sign up for two full years. Launching the same day should be the Samsung u540 at $80 after rebates on a two-year agreement.

Palm "ultra thin" WiMAX smartphone
Posted on Mar 09 2007 10:21 AM by Jones T. Miller
Filed Under: News ,

Palm is in desperate need of fresh product. Like, not a new Treo with a little more memory or a slightly better camera -- we mean seriously fresh product. Palm allegedly is going to swoop in late this year (think October time frame) with an "ultra thin" (tipster's words, not ours) smartphone that'll rock WiMAX out of the box. No word on what platform it'll sport or really any other detail of consequence, but "Palm" and "thin" aren't typically two words you hear in the same sentence, so by the time you throw in some blazing fast data, this could be quite a treat indeed.

Samsung SPH-W2500

Looks like a healthy portion of the sliders Samsung has loosed in recent history? Sure, 13.8 millimeters is nice for a slider and all, but it's by no means groundbreaking; same goes for the 2 megapixel primary and VGA front-facing cameras, microSD slot, and media support. That being said, we're hard-pressed to dis any 3G phone that's managed to make it all the way to the FCC's hallowed halls, so we're going to cut the criticism right here and cross our fingers for an expedient arrival on US shores.

Sony Ericsson W880i

Filed Under: Sony Ericsson , News ,

Exactly 22 days after the W880i was announced by Sony Ericsson, good ol' (and apparently really fast) Orange UK gets this wee device out the door for "pay monthly" customers. Orange seems a wee bit confused about the specs on the device though; battery life is listed as 2.5 hours talk time and 1 day standby. With power specs like that, we doubt these nano-sized cells will be flying off the shelves -- talk time should be listed as 6 hours with 452 hours standby time. Sounding a little more attractive now?

Cellphone new nesting place
Posted on Mar 01 2007 10:58 AM by Jones T. Miller
Filed Under: News ,

You can’t deny that cellphones these days have turned out to be fashionable accessories, and most people choose a handset of their choice based on their budget, needs, and personality. Therefore, why not choose the option to flaunt your cellphone in a way that is uniquely you with the CPC Strap from HTL Wireless? Don’t even think that the CPC is some variation of a sport armband or cellphone case - to do so would be heresy. What the CPC Strap actually is is a revolutionary one size fits all Body Loop Strap which can be adjusted according to the girth of the object it is attached to. You can wear it on your arm, leg, wrist, or even on your ankle - it doesn’t matter as the CPC Strap will stay there securely everywhere you go. A great idea would be to pair it up with a Bluetooth headset (just make sure your cellphone comes with Bluetooth connectivity in the first place) for a truly handsfree solution. Of course, you do not need to only use the CPC Strap to tote your cellphone around - it is more than capable of accommodating your MP3 player or compact digital camera with ease.

Prada Bluetooth Headset
Posted on Feb 27 2007 9:09 AM by Jones T. Miller
Filed Under: News ,

Take the LG - Prada Bluetooth Headset, unlike some other Bluetooth devices this one is shiny and glossy, it looks like it belongs in a magazine, and so will probably become the next hot thing as all the celebs attempt to fill the ears with them, can you have one in each ear? I have never really thought that one. So what do you get with this device, there is the curios display on the side, I say curious simply because what is the point, when you are using it, how can you see what says? Anyway the display lets you know the battery strength and ear piece volume, which I suppose you can set before you place into your ear, I should point out that the display is not always visible, as it only stays illuminated while you check the settings etc.

To accept a call, the button is placed on the side above the display, but is a flush fitting button so will not stick out at all, the whole concept of this head set is about design and style, and really this one will be the best one on the market when it hit’s the market place some time in May this year, price wise you can expect to be paying out for the design and the name, therefore it is bound to be more expensive than the others on the market.

Benefon announces WM6 GPS devices
Posted on Feb 26 2007 9:51 AM by Jones T. Miller
Filed Under: News ,

Benefon is rolling out a trio of new GPS-enabled mobiles for its 2007 product portfolio. As always, the trade names it assigns are just so cute: The TWIG Talisman, Totem and Monolith. That almost sounds like a fourth Lord of the Rings flick. Anyway, this triumvirate of WM6 Smartphones geared towards the navigation junkie should delight many looking for a newer WM6 device with out-of-the-box GPS integration -- and that includes the new TWIG Talisman (GPRS / EDGE). The TWIG Totem comes with HSDPA and EDGE along with an integrated SiRF Star III GPS chip and Bluetooth revision 1.2 (no 2.0?).

T-Mobile D-Wade Sidekick 3 now available
Posted on Feb 22 2007 10:16 AM by Jones T. Miller
Filed Under: News ,

While D-Wade's name is on this unit, we doubt he got into the cellphone design biz outside of the colors and ringtones this puppy will sport. Anywho, this Sidekick 3 is the same except for certain color choices on the exterior and some other custom stuff (drop us a line with what you see if you've played with one of these). If you've been holding out for a faux gold-encrusted Sidekick 3, here's your chance.

LG handset to lead GSM Association "3G for All"
Posted on Feb 21 2007 10:10 AM by Jones T. Miller
Filed Under: LG ,

LG Electronics thinks it is, as the world's fourth largest handset maker (having been just recently surpassed by Flickr-lover Sony Ericsson) scored a major coup at 3GSM last week when it was announced that one of LG's handsets will lead the GSM Association's "3G for All" campaign to make sure everyone and anyone knows that 3G is alive and well and that they should subscribe. Now. Anyway, the LG model KU250 will end up being sold for about 30% less wholesale than the typical entry-level 3G phone. The meat from LG here is that this handset, even at the lower entry price, will be very competitive with the multimedia second-generation handsets selling now. The KU250's dimensions at 15mm thick will have support from 12 global wireless carriers at the outset and was chosen from 19 handsets submitted by eight vendors.

ZTE F908 clamshell

ZTE's new F908, a clamshell out of China that seems to do both with poise. In this case, the mobile TV tech in question is DVB-H backed up by a pivoting display that should make viewing a more pleasurable experience, while a 3.6Mbps HSDPA radio keeps data flowing at a nice clip; of course, we don't expect to see the F908 around these parts any time soon, but if you happen to be on the other side of the world, keep an eye out for 'er.

Brando joins wacky world of fakes
Posted on Feb 15 2007 10:55 AM by Jones T. Miller
Filed Under: News ,

It seems Brando, everyone's favorite overseas purveyor of all things gadgety, has gotten into the Keepin' It Real Fake business (a slippery slope, if we do say so ourselves) by offering up said N73 forgery as the "Nokir E828" ("Nokir" instead of "Nokia," get it?). We remain utterly underwhelmed by the E828's meager spec sheet; the QVGA screen with stylus is cool, don't get us wrong, but GPRS is the widest bit pipe you're going to squeeze out of this thing and the 2 megapixel cam cowers in the shadow of the N73's 3.2 megapixel piece. Ah well, at least it only sets buyers back $200 -- and just like the eBay-hawked version before it, that's a good chunk less than the real deal.

The Nokia 6110 Navigator is a GPS (Global Positioning System) and AGPS (Assisted Global Positioning System) in a compact mobile phone. With the HSDPA enabled Nokia 6110 Navigator you get a full personal navigation experience with integrated maps, routing and navigation.

The Nokia 6110 Navigator suggests the best route to follow to reach a location by car or on foot. You also can get location based information about nearby restaurants, hotels or shops. The location based services are the key. A mobile phone GPS device can get current information easily from web services and overlay them on the map.
