MobiTV has smashed through the two million paying subscriber barrier, having doubled its audience in less than 12 months.
The US company, which powers mobile TV services for the likes of Sprint, AT&T, 3 and Orange UK, says it can now offer more than a hundred channels across 150 handsets.

Since passing the one million subscriber mark in April last year, MobiTV has landed $100 million in VC cash to fund development of WiMAX/DVB-H delivery and interactive advertising models. It has also moved into the Latin American market, securing 14 operator distribution deals in the region.

Motorola Q Sprint
Posted on Dec 17 2006 3:46 AM by Vicetra

What, exactly, would a Motorola Q look like all dressed up in Sprint livery? If you guessed "like any other Q but with Sprint logos strategically placed about its exterior," you'd only be partially correct. From these press shots, it looks like Sprint will be launching out of the gate with the new (arguably hotter-looking) black variant, a color that we've already heard CDMA rival Verizon would be picking up itself in the near future. Otherwise, we get a revised Sprint-specific theme slapped onto the handset's Windows Mobile UI, the aforementioned Sprint logos front and rear, and that's about it. We still don't have an exact drop date, but current rumors have customers being able to get their QWERTY on some time between mid-December and early January. Click on for more eye candy!

Sanyo M1

The rather decked Sanyo M1 has managed to get musicphone-yearnin' Sprint fanboys salivating already, without even a complete set of press shots to glom onto. Well, we're here to set the story straight, with a few press photos from an anonymous tipster of the M1 in all its glory, along with a full-on spec sheet for your perusal. As evidenced by those eBay shots we spotted in October, the phone isn't exactly RAZR bustin' when it comes to slim, but it's still plenty pocketable, and those fancy deets like 1GB of memory, a 2.0 megapixel camera (with flash), A2DP, and a QVGA internal display should justify the bulk here -- for wearers of all but the slimmest of jeans, at least. The best news is that the phone is purportedly set for a soft launch tomorrow, December 3rd, and some reports are coming in of phone orders going through already. Apparently the phone costs $349 -- we believe that's without contract -- but we suppose we'll find out all of this tomorrow, so no use sweating the small stuff at this point. Keep reading for that spec sheet and a few jumbo pics.

HTC Vox

Many fans of the form factor proposed by HTC's upcoming Libra (pictured) -- numeric keypad when closed, QWERTY when open -- probably felt a little snubbed when it seemed like CDMA customers would be the only folks lucky enough to put one in their pockets; we know we did. The latest intelligence coming off the wires suggests that we can all finally rest easy, though, with a device being called "Vox" taking the torch for the GSM side. Details are slim, but it sounds like Vox won't have the 3G capability of its EV-DO rev. A equipped Libra cousin, merely topping out with EDGE instead. HTC will apparently be positioning the Vox as a messaging-friendly phone (a la LG VX9900) rather than a full fledged PDA -- and with a meager 96MB of internal storage to its name, it shows. Look for it to drop shortly after the Libra in the first half of 2007.

HTC P4350
Posted on Dec 16 2006 1:23 AM by Vicetra

Thanks largely to the lack of a 3G radio, we'd venture to guess that anticipation for HTC's Herald isn't building nearly as strongly as it did for the Hermes, but the 17 millimeter thick enclosure should be more than enough to woo a buyer or two away from their Wizard. As we'd previously mentioned, the device will be sold directly by HTC as the P4350 (not as the ambiguous "BRAND" pictured here) and Boy Genius has managed to get one of 'em in his paws. For the record, 17 millimeters is still more than two Samsung X820s; of course, we're probably not going to see Windows Mobile booting on that thing any time soon.

Samsung P930
Posted on Dec 08 2006 10:07 AM by Vicetra
Filed Under: Samsung ,

Samsung are set to release what many believe will be the best mobile phone available today, in the shape of the Samsung SGH P930.  This phone is both stylish and contains some of the most cutting edge software and functionality seen to date.  The phone itself is a stylish “slider” phone which initially looks similar to some other phones on the market, but it really is a one off.  The dimension of the phone are 107 mm x 49 mm x 19.7 mm weighing in at 119 grams.  While not the lightest mobile on the market, how Samsung have managed to squeeze so much functionality into this phone is very impressive. The top part of the phone contains the TF display screen which is 240 mm x 320 mm and offers a combination of 262,000 colours.  The focus of the display screen is perfect, and is only slightly diminished in bright sunlight - useful for those people on the move.  As with most of the “slider” type phones, the display screen dominate the model, although this is well complimented by the sleek design of the phone which is available in polished black, with stylish silver trim.. The keys themselves are housed under the top layer of the phone, and become visible when the slider action is utilised.  The keys blend Samsung SGH P930in very well with the phone colours, and are actually built into the casing of the phone.  They are fairly sensitive to touch and easy to use in conjunction with your traditional navigation tilt button, and additional function keys.  You will however soon realise that the screen display actually rotates horizontally or vertically for better viewing, which comes in useful for some of the other functions available (see below) ........

Kyocera Cyclops

The new Cyclops, as the handset is to be known, features Virgin Mobile's TXT Tones and Virgin Audio Messaging, as well as other mid-range features and a sleek design. In partnership with Warner Music Group, Virgin Mobile's TXT Tones service functions similar to other ringtone purchasing systems, though instead of buying longer segments of songs, only three to five second clips are available, and are designed to be used for message alert tones. Each TXT Tone costs US$1.50 to download, and can be purchased either online at www.virginmobileusa.com or through the handset's VirginXL menu. Virgin Mobile Audio Messaging (VAM) is aimed at expanding existing messaging functionality by allowing the user to create a contact list to see who is available to be 'VAMed,' and subsequently record and send a voice message to the other party. If the other person is available, they can listen to the message and reply with their own, and if not the message will be stored and available to them when they are ......

After the successful launch of the LG VX8500 Chocolate phone on Verizon Wireless back in July, the operator has today expanded the line with the unveiling of a white version of the iconic handset. While the specifications between the white and black versions are exactly the same, the new hue is sure to garner some attention. Sporting EV-DO data, a QVGA resolution screen, and 1.3 megapixel camera, the handset stacks up well against other fashion phones on the market. The music-orientated handset also features a microSD memory card slot, and access to Verizon's V-CAST Music, V-CAST Video, and VZ Navigator services. The new white LG VX8500 Chocolate is available now from the Verizon Wireless website for US$129.99 with a two-year service agreement and US$50 online discount.

BenQ-Siemens S81

While 3G phones are starting to take off around the world, it seems as though super thin 3G is the theme around the 3GSM World Congress this year. BenQ-Siemens' thin UMTS handset offering is the S81, a candy bar model with a professional, subtle style to it - classic Siemens really. The S81 comes in at only 13mm (0.51") thin, and weights just 99g. It sports a 262k color TFT LCD, though unlike other BenQ-Siemens handsets on display with QVGA screens, this model only includes a 176x220 pixel unit. A 1.3 megapixel camera is paired with 30MB of on board memory with microSD expansion for storage, and Bluetooth 1.1, Java, and email support round out the rather plain feature set. Thin is the game with the BenQ-Siemens S81 though, and at this it excels. Look for the S81 around Europe during Q2 this year.
